The Swede was substituted at half-time for the Magpies in their 2-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at the weekend. A blow to the face appeared to daze Isak, with Eddie Howe confirming he needed to be withdrawn.
“It was more his eye so I’m not 100% sure what the issue was but we knew he had to come off,” Howe told reporters. “I absolutely hope not (whether the injury is serious). He’s such an important player to us.”

As it happened, the move proved a blessing in disguise as his replacement, Harvey Barnes, scored the winner late on. However, The Daily Mail report that Isak has suffered a tow injury and is now a major concern for Saturday’s trip to Fulham.
Any injury to the 25-year-old would deal a colossal blow to Newcastle’s unbeaten start to the season. Since arriving from Real Sociedad in August 2022, Isak has developed into one of the Premier League’s best strikers. Callum Wilson – his natural replacement – remains sidelined with a back problem and is yet to kick a ball this season. Howe may turn to Anthony Gordon to lead the line – as he did for the second half against Wolves.
William Osula, a summer recruit who hasn’t played in 2024–25, is an alternative. The teenage player from Sheffield United was signed by Newcastle for £15 million, and he made an impression on his Sela CUp debut last month.
