Goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli, an Argentinean, has spoken out to support Emiliano Martinez of Aston Villa, stating that he is not the monster that has been portrayed.
The goalie has been discussing the 32-year-old Aston Villa star and how he isn’t who people believe he is with L’Equipe, as reported by RMC Sport.
Thanks to his recent club and national team performances, Martinez is appreciated at Villa Park and in Argentina, but he is definitely among the top five most despised footballers worldwide.
This is a result of the “in your face” demeanor he has when playing, frequently shoving players and using mental tricks to give himself an advantage over them.
It’s a tactic that has succeeded so far, particularly on the international front, where he’s won the Copa America twice and the World Cup.
The latter was made possible by victory against France in one of the most memorable World Cup finals ever, which was decided on penalties.
The Aston Villa player, who had used psychological strategies to great success in the shootout victory over the Netherlands in the quarterfinals, stepped up once more at that point.
In the end, this had an impact on Kingsley Coman and Aurelien Tchouaméni, who both failed to give Argentina the victory in spite of an incredible French comeback.
