The Paraguayan was a runner-up in Scottish Cup with Dees Dundee have paid tribute to former striker Fabian Caballero after he passed away at the age of 46. The Paraguayan, who played for the Dens Park side between 2000 and 2005, is reported to have collapsed during a futsal match in his homeland.
In addition to playing for Sol de America, Tacuary, Atletico Tembetary, Cerro Porteno, and Serro Portino in South America, Caballero also had a brief stint with Arsenal, making one appearance for the Gunners. At Dundee in 2003, he won a runners-up medal in the Scottish Cup.
A cult favorite among the Dundee faithful, Caballero made a comeback in November to participate in Cammy Kerr’s testimonial. Before Dundee’s Premiership match against Aberdeen at Dens Park this afternoon, they intend to honor Caballero.
“Everyone at Dundee Football Club is extremely shocked and saddened this morning to learn of the passing of former Dundee player Fabián Caballero,” the team said in a statement shared on social media.
Everyone at Dundee Football Club will really mourn Fabian, who died away at the age of 46. In July 2000, Fabián joined The Dee and quickly rose to the top of the Dundee fan base.
“Everyone at the club is thinking about Fabián’s family during this extremely difficult moment.
Later today, the club will release a comprehensive homage to Fabián. Fabián, rest in peace.
