Following Saturday’s much-improved performance and deserved point at home to Man City, we’re back at St James’ tomorrow night and should expect to see a few changes as we prepare to play Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup.
In light of this weekend’s trip to Everton, the victor will likely visit Chelsea in the fourth round. This might be an opportunity for a few periphery players to make an impression against League Two opponents.
Considering that Eddie Howe acknowledged in today’s press conference that he will give playing time to players who haven’t played much this season and that Alexander Isak has already ruled out, I anticipate seeing Will Osula, Miguel Almiron, Joe Willock, Sean Longstaff, Tino Livramento, Lloyd Kelly, and Emil Krafth join the squad.
Almiron hasn’t played much this season and may be eager to prove a point; Howe hinted as much in this morning’s press conference. Willock and Longstaff appear set for recalls in midfield after neither started against Man City. It would be Osula’s first competitive start since his £10 million move from Sheffield United this summer. It feels likely with Isak out, Callum Wilson still injured, and Anthony Gordon likely to be saved for Saturday’s return to Goodison Park.
