Newcastle United are set to make checks on three players ahead of the Premier League trip to Everton on Saturday.
After defeating League Two team AFC Wimbledon 1-0 last night thanks to a penalty kick by Fabian Schar, the Magpies advanced to the Carabao Cup fourth round, where they will face Chelsea.
Schar, who started the tie as captain, requested to come off in the closing stages while goalkeeper Martin Dubravka needed to withdraw at half-time following a collision with Omar Bugiel.
Howe gave the following explanation of Dubravka’s issue: “Martin has received a severe knock to his knee. Although we’ll wait and see how things work out tomorrow, we hope he’s okay. I’m not sure if it’s a knock or something more significant.
The Slovakian made his first appearance of the 2024–25 season, and Howe disclosed that Nick Pope had been sidelined due to injury.
Pope’s knee problem is hoped not to be serious. When he missed five months of the previous season due to a dislocated shoulder, it was felt greatly.
Howe stated, “We don’t think it’s serious; it’s just a little swelling on his knee.” We’ll have to wait and see—ideally not.
In addition, Newcastle will evaluate Alexander Isak and Kieran Trippier prior to the match at Goodison Park.
Trippier began Saturday’s 1-1 tie with Manchester City but left the game due to what seemed to be cramps. Isak is dealing with a fractured toe in the meanwhile.
