Miguel Almrion, a winger for Newcastle, was on the verge of leaving St. James’ Park during the summer, and TEAMtalk has learned that he’s likely to go in January.
With 11 points from their first six Premier League games, the Magpies have made a strong start to the season and are now two points outside of the top four.
Given that many supporters believed Newcastle was no stronger than the previous season, Newcastle faced some criticism for their lack of expenditure during the summer transfer window.
They were compelled to sell players as a result of being constrained by the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations (PSR), which was one of the reasons behind this.
Almiron was among the players on the verge of departing during the summer. Everton was among the several teams who expressed interest in him, and Newcastle might have pursued players like Michael Olise if he had been sold.
As a great admirer of Almiron, Eddie Howe hoped he would stay, and in the end, he did. That being said, there’s no assurance he’ll be with the Magpies come January.
TEAMtalk has learned from sources that Almiron is attracting “major interest” from the Saudi Pro League, the serious League Soccer, France, and Germany.
Everton considered summer move for Almiron – sources
TEAMtalk is aware that Everton was interested in Almiron throughout the summer, but they saw him as a backup plan after passing up on other winger targets including Ernest Nuamah, Yankuba Minteh, and Jaden Philogene.
If their off-field problems are settled and new owners are in place in time, the Toffees could be tempted to make a bid for Almiron in January.
Almiron was sought by Newcastle to be sold in its entirety in the summer so they could have used the transfer cash and his savings salaries to add more offensive players.
That discouraged Everton from making a last-ditch effort to sign the Paraguayan international, although the Saudi Pro League and MLS, according to TEAMtalk sources, are still interested.
Almiron has stated that his next club must meet or surpass his current salary of about £60,000 per week, which he now receives from the Magpies.
According to people close to the player, January may be “interesting” for Almiron. The 30-year-old’s transfer is still desired by Charlotte FC, a team located in North Carolina, who initiated discussions with him in the summer.
Representatives for Almiron and Charlotte are in constant communication, with the intention of persuading him to transfer this winter.
Almiron out, Mbeumo in for Newcastle?
In the meanwhile, Newcastle managed to secure renowned winger Anthony Gordon to a new, long-term deal; yet, should Almiron go, they may still acquire a new winger in January.
Newcastle is one of many Premier League teams keeping a close eye on in-form Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, as we exclusively disclosed on Monday.
The 25-year-old, who has begun the season in scorching form for Brentford with five goals in the first six Premier League games, including outstanding performances against Tottenham and West Ham, is also admired by Liverpool and Arsenal.
Mbeumo might join a premier league team in the future, according to Thomas Frank’s prior comments, and Newcastle is expected to enter the battle for him in January.
