The Argentine Football Association (FA) expressed “absolute disagreement” with FIFA’s decision to suspend Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez for two matches last week due to his “offensive behavior” against Chile and Colombia in September. The 32-year-old has accepted the suspension and will miss the team’s World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela and Bolivia this month. On Wednesday, the stopper looked good for Aston Villa in their 1-0 Champions League victory over Bayern Munich. The Argentine media spoke with the stopper about the two-match suspension, which TNT Sports has reported.
A vulgar gesture was allegedly made by Martínez during the national team’s victory over Chile. In addition, he was a part of a dispute following La Albiceleste’s loss against Colombia. Following the lengthy break, the Aston Villa player assaulted a photographer.
The champion of the World Cup and the Copa América has hinted that the organization that oversees sports appears to be biased against him.
“It is beyond your control. I sacrifice everything for the national team and my club. I try my hardest. I can’t stop them from having anything against me sometimes,” he remarked.
According to TNT Sports, the South American has no option but to accept the circumstances.
“I like my country and my team.” I’ll remain here as I have to train. We have a team spare, so it’s unfortunate that I can’t be here. We must prevail because doing so will get us closer to the World Cup. We have to win these games,” Martínez said.
The former Arsenal player has set himself the objective of taking home hardware with Unai Emery’s team. In eight games this season for Aston Villa, he has surrendered nine goals while maintaining two clean sheets.
