Former Everton manager Keith Wyness has stated that he would “never object” to Newcastle United reaching an agreement to sign a new, massively lucrative contract with Riyadh Air.

The 66-year-old, who currently runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs, stated on the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast that the Magpies would be justified in accepting significant sponsorship money from the Gulf airline because of the “very valuable” publicity they provide. The 66-year-old served as CEO of Goodison Park from 2004 to 2009.

Financial analyst Stefan Borson stated to Football Insider on September 29 that should Man City prevail in their Associated Party Transactions (APT) lawsuit against the Premier League, Newcastle may have greater opportunities to secure significant agreements associated with their Saudi Arabian owners.

According to Arabian Business Gulf Insight (September 23), there is increasing conjecture that the Magpies would sign a lucrative contract with Riyadh Air, who has been actively pursuing football sponsorship.

The flag carrier has a sponsorship agreement with Concacaf and is the sponsor of Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

As of recent year (2023), Newcastle’s airline partnership with Saudia was extended from 2022 to 2023.

Wyness has ‘no issue’ with Newcastle scoring Riyadh Air deal

Wyness stated on the Football Insider podcast’s Insider Track: “I’m not sure what the Riyadh Air contract would be valued at.

“But I don’t see a problem with it as long as it is about the price of comparable airline arrangements at other teams.

“There are plenty of airline agreements with other clubs, Emirates, and other companies; these have been updated to account for inflation and current needs.

“I don’t see any problems with Newcastle carrying out this activity in accordance with APT regulations.

“I don’t mind at all because they give the airline very valuable publicity.”
