Recalling how he learnt of his comeback to the England national squad, Dominic Solanke expressed his “delight” at the news.
The 27-year-old, who scored 21 goals for Bournemouth in all competitions last season, including 19 in 38 Premier League games, made a significant move to Tottenham during the summer.
Solanke has steadied himself after a difficult start with Spurs. He has three goals and two assists in all competitions going into the October break, all of which came in his past four appearances.
Consequently, Solanke has now qualified for an England call-up for the first time since a 0-0 friendly tie with Brazil in 2017, the year he received his solitary cap.
Solanke considers his return to the England team as a “delighted” reward for his efforts.
Solanke stated, “I’ve been working, working, working” (via Tottenham’s official website). “I’m happy to be back, back with the boys and representing my country, as it’s been a good few years and a while since I was here.”
“I recognise a few of the boys, and there are still some familiar faces. It’s evident that they are back at St. George’s Park.” Thus, it’s pleasant. It’s excellent.
Domic inSolanke ‘buzzing’ to be back for England
When Solanke received the call from England interim manager Lee Carsley, he was still recuperating from Tottenham’s Europa League away victory at Ferencvaros.
“I was actually waiting for the call in the morning because I had a game on Thursday.” Solanke remembered. “I received a message telling me to call him. After our phone conversation, he informed me that I would be joining the squad. So it’s evident that I was buzzing after that.
He went on, “My mum,” when asked who he spoke to first after learning the news. It was evident she was ecstatic. She has followed my career throughout, so this is also a significant time for her.
