Paul Mitchell, the sports director of Newcastle United, may decide to look to France as he starts to rework the Magpies’ hiring process.

At St. James’ Park, things are about to change as Paul Mitchell works to transform Newcastle United’s approach to the transfer market.

He acknowledged that the club’s prior approach was ineffective and criticised it. As there is frequently little value in domestic transfers, Mitchell now wants Newcastle to sign more players from undiscovered markets.

Eddie Howe has supported Mitchell’s new transfer strategy, which may mean the former Monaco president will draw on his knowledge of Ligue 1.

Newcastle United looking at ‘outstanding’ Ligue 1 talent

Graeme Bailey, an insider at TBR Football, told Geordie Boot Boys that Newcastle United is presently considering three Ligue 1 players.

Maghnes Akliouche, a 22-year-old right winger for Monaco, is the first. He has already made eight appearances this season. Most recently, he scored in Monaco’s Champions League victory over Barcelona, 2-1.

He declared, “Maghnes Akliouche is a top player.”

He is a superb footballer who plays as a winger or a number 10. He is amazing, and I can definitely see Newcastle using him in that right-side role.

“Anywhere across the front is where he can play. Newcastle ought to pursue this kind of player. Paul Mitchell is familiar with this player.

“Yes, Newcastle has been observing him, but they are not the only ones.”

Newcastle watch Lucas Chevalier

Bailey has also mentioned that Lucas Chevalier, Lille’s first-choice custodian, has been scouted by Newcastle.

Newcastle made an unsuccessful attempt to address that situation throughout the summer. Giorgi Mamardashvili and Aaron Ramsdale piqued Newcastle’s attention, and a second attempt to get James Trafford was unsuccessful.

Although Newcastle is still interested in Trafford, they have also looked at the 22-year-old French custodian who showed great play in Lille’s Champions League victory against Real Madrid.

Bailey remarked, “He is a very good young custodian.”

Newcastle may take action in that goalkeeping department the following summer.

“Chevalier is a fantastic potential and one of the top young goalkeepers in Europe. Newcastle has been observing him.

Jonathan David on Newcastle’s radar as his contract winds down

Jonathan David, Chevalier’s colleague at Lille, is the third player in Ligue 1 in which Newcastle United has expressed interest.

In the last year of his deal with the Ligue 1 team, the 24-year-old is expected to become a free agent in 2025.

Newcastle has reportedly met with David’s agents, according to Geordie Boot Boys, in an effort to ascertain what type of pay would be necessary to entice the Canadian striker to St James’ Park.

Although David is being considered by Newcastle, Bailey is not sure if he will make the transition to the Premier League in 2025.

He stated that “Lille are fully expecting him to leave on a free transfer.”

“He’s playing really nicely. He is, to use American terminology, in a contract year, and he is making the most of it.

“He will be able to select the clubs of his choice. Does he make his way to England? I’m not really certain. I am aware that Tim Stiedten, the manager of West Ham, decided against pursuing him during the summer.

In January, he may receive many offers for a contract from teams like Newcastle. Newcastle is at the top of the list of teams that have the potential to recruit him.

David would find a relocation to be quite thrilling. He is a fantastic attacker who has had an incredible season to date. In 13 games, David has eight goals, and Newcastle is now looking to add a striker.

David is attracting interest from Newcastle, and it would be intriguing to see whether the team makes a formal offer after making an early contact.
