Due to injury, James Forrest will not be playing for Scotland in their forthcoming Nations League matches against Croatia and Portugal. [SunSport]
The 33-year-old Celtic winger adds to a growing list of absentees for Scotland, with crucial players like Lawrence Shankland, Greg Taylor, Lewis Ferguson, Aaron Hickey, Nathan Patterson, and John McGinn also sidelined.
Forrest’s injury became evident when he skipped Scotland’s last practice prior to their match in Zagreb against Croatia. After the international break, on October 19, the Hoops are scheduled to play Aberdeen. He will now return to Celtic for treatment. Forrest, who also missed the previous international camp due to injuries, is going through another difficult time.
This season, he has made seven league appearances for Celtic and has contributed three assists. He had fallen out of favour, but towards the close of the previous season, he made an impression on Brendan Rodgers and started to play some regular minutes.
The injury blow comes at a tough time for Forrest and Scotland, who are trying to win their first points of the season and manager Steve Clarke is dealing with a thin roster ahead of crucial Nations League matches.
As soon as domestic activity begins, Celtic’s top goal will be to make sure Forrest is healthy and prepared to contribute.
