Salford City FC has announced that Nicky Butt will step down from his position as Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. Appointed in October 2022, Butt took over from Gary Neville but has decided he can no longer commit the necessary time for the role. He will, however, remain an active shareholder and board director.

While Butt has enjoyed his responsibilities as CEO and gained insights into the challenges of managing an EFL club, he now feels drawn back to coaching and player development. Several recent coaching opportunities have reignited his passion for being on the field. With a capable senior management team in place, Butt feels confident stepping away without disrupting the club’s operations.

Jonathan Jackson, the current Finance Director, will serve as interim CEO. Jackson brings over a decade of experience as a football club Chief Executive, having worked in both the Premier League and EFL. Since joining Salford City, he has supported the Class of 92 in the club’s growth, ensuring a smooth transition during this leadership change.
