Newcastle United must make a significant choice on the acquisition of a right winger.
It is hoped that during the January transfer window, Newcastle United’s greatest area of weakness will be addressed.
According to reports, Newcastle is more interested in signing a right winger than a centre back. That is in spite of spending the most of the summer pursuing Marc Guehi, which ultimately failed.
However, as January approaches, the Magpies are shifting their focus, with Paul Mitchell and Eddie Howe planning to go after a goal scorer and goal creator rather than a custodian.
Newcastle’s dream right winger signing
After failing to sign Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest in the summer, it has been stated that Newcastle is still interested in him.
He does not appear to be Mitchell’s priority goal in 2025, though.
Bryan Mbeumo, a star for Brentford, is Newcastle’s ideal winger acquisition, according to iNews.
Over the summer, Mbeumo was linked to Newcastle, as some of the top teams in the Premier League kept an eye on a player who was frequently overlooked because of Ivan Toney’s presence in West London.
Bryan Mbeumo ticks a lot of boxes for Newcastle
However, Mbeumo has shown that he is capable of being Brentford’s main man. He filled in for Toney while he was suspended, and now he is flying after the former Toon forward moved to Saudi Arabia.
The season is off to an amazing start for Mbeumo. In eight Premier League outings for Brentford, he has scored six goals. To put things in perspective, the Newcastle United team as a whole has eight Premier League goals between them.
The 25-year-old is in excellent form and appears to be a perfect fit for Eddie Howe’s offensive scheme. He can play as a central striker, although he is most effective in the final third. Given his adaptability, he might be the ideal choice for January.
Newcastle transfer is unlikely for Mbeumo
A deal for Mbeumo in January is improbable, according to iNews.
It is unfortunate because the man Thomas Frank referred to as a “leader in the making” might be the answer to every issue facing Newcastle.
It will be intriguing to see whether Mitchell finds another target or at least tries his hand at an approach for the Cameroon international.
Newcastle may also decide to hold off on making a move for Mbeumo until the summer of 2025, but the Magpies are in dire need of a new right winger in January.
