After Thursday night’s game against the Minnesota Vikings, head coach Sean McVay of the Los Angeles Rams made some noteworthy remarks on the Cooper Kupp trade rumours.
Following the Rams’ 30–20 victory over the Vikings at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, McVay discussed the boost that Los Angeles had from having Kupp and Puka Nacua return. McVay also stated unequivocally that he does not expect Kupp to be traded.
According to Michael Baca of NFL.com, McVay stated, “I’m really glad to have Cooper Kupp back with us and I expect it to stay that way.”
Although McVay said that clubs have contacted the Rams regarding Kupp, he claimed that some reports regarding the issue are “just not true.” The coach was probably alluding to the report that stated the Rams are prepared to let go of Kupp and are prepared to forgo a portion of the 31-year-old’s pay in order to close a deal.
Naturally, if L.A. were looking to move Kupp, it would only hurt their position, and McVay publicly acknowledged this. If the Rams are selling Kupp to other clubs, McVay might just be attempting to keep his power.
After missing Week 2 due to an ankle ailment, Kupp made his comeback Thursday night. He had five catches for 51 yards and a touchdown in the end.
Nacua’s influence was considerably greater. It was surprising to see the second-year wideout return to action after missing Week 1 due to a knee ailment. Nacua led the Rams with seven catches for 106 yards, despite the expectation that he would be limited.
One AFC team is ranked as the clear favourite to acquire the former Offensive Player of the Year if the Rams do decide to trade Kupp.
