King’s Lynn Town manager Adam Lakeland faces a key decision regarding the team’s first-choice goalkeeper as they prepare for back-to-back matches against two top-six teams in four days.
Paul Jones is available again after missing three games due to a knee injury, during which Pat Boyes has allowed just one goal, contributing to the team’s seven-point gain. Lakeland must weigh his options with Lynn’s upcoming challenging matches against Spennymoor and league leaders Chorley.
Adding to his concerns is the absence of Josh Hmami on Tuesday and uncertainty over midfielder Tommy Hughes, who left the field early during Saturday’s goalless match with Leamington.
Jones was cleared to play against Leamington, but Lakeland decided to rely on Boyes, who rewarded that trust with a critical late save. “Top keepers stay alert even with little action,” Lakeland commented, emphasizing how vital Boyes’ last-minute save was.
While Jones is recognized as the number one, Lakeland is grateful for Boyes’ strong backup presence. “We’ve got a reliable number two in Pat, and he’s showing real growth,” he added.
The manager is mindful of the physical strength of their upcoming opponents, describing them as “big, physical sides, strong on set-pieces,” and suggests that Boyes’ recent performance has afforded the option of easing Jones back slowly. Lakeland said, “A decision will be made before Tuesday, but Pat should be proud of his recent displays.”
Facing Spennymoor and Chorley will certainly test Lynn, but Lakeland remains confident: “Every game is tough. Spennymoor is strong, and Chorley has shown their quality. But we’re in good form, and our focus is on delivering a solid performance and aiming for a result.”
In other news, the Linnets have drawn an away match at Leamington in the FA Trophy, with fixture details forthcoming.
