As the South Sydney Rabbitohs prepare to kick off the 2025 season with Wayne Bennett as head coach, fullback Latrell Mitchell is reportedly in top shape following an off-season of hard work. Broncos legend Corey Parker suggested that Mitchell’s recent silence is a positive sign, hinting that the fullback, after a turbulent 2024, is ready to make an impact.
Mitchell’s 2024 season was marked by highs and lows, from his strong performance in Game 2 of the State of Origin to a sidelining foot injury. He faced additional challenges with a one-game suspension and a $20,000 fine after a club controversy, and despite Rabbitohs’ efforts, he wasn’t able to serve the suspension while injured.
Coach Bennett, who has pledged his support for Mitchell, is set on bringing the Rabbitohs back into the top eight after a difficult few seasons. Mitchell has since been working hard in the off-season, with Parker sharing on SEN Radio that recent photos show a “fit and trim” Mitchell, ready to take on the upcoming season. This off-field discipline suggests Mitchell is entering 2025 with renewed focus.
In another twist, Kangaroos coach Mal Meninga omitted Mitchell from the squad for the Pacific Championship, citing fitness concerns. However, this has given Mitchell time to focus on recovery, aiming for an injury-free season under Bennett’s guidance.
While Mitchell will miss the opening round to serve his delayed suspension, he appears poised for a strong season, with his goal set on returning the Rabbitohs to the finals and proving his resilience in 2025.
