Zac Lomax has weighed in on the Ben Hunt controversy, supporting his former Dragons teammate’s reasons for leaving the club. Currently with the Kangaroos for the Pacific Championships final against Tonga, Lomax has spoken out for the first time since officially parting ways with the Dragons on November 1.

Lomax, now preparing to join Parramatta in 2025 after being released from the final two years of his Dragons contract, reflected on his decision. He echoed Hunt’s sentiments, hinting that he sees a brighter future with the Eels, while casting doubt on the Dragons’ prospects in the coming season. This follows Hunt’s recent departure, where he voiced frustration with the Dragons’ lack of competitiveness and hinted at a possible return to Queensland.

At Kangaroos training, Lomax said of Hunt’s exit, “He just wants to go and win. He doesn’t feel like he can do that with the Dragons, and I feel the same way.” He expressed excitement about joining the Eels, feeling ready for a new chapter after spending seven years at the Dragons. He added, “I’m stoked my time there is up. I needed a new challenge to push myself and get out of my comfort zone.”

Despite the Eels’ recent struggles, Lomax is optimistic, believing they have the potential for a successful season in 2025. He is also looking forward to playing as a centre, a role that Parramatta’s new coach, Jason Ryles, has discussed with him.

Lomax also addressed Clint Gutherson’s anticipated departure from the Eels, saying he wishes Gutherson the best while backing the club’s new direction under Ryles.
