Manly has taken a risk by signing veteran prop Sio Siua Taukeiaho, previously with the Roosters and a regular in the Kiwi and Tongan Test teams. At 32, Taukeiaho has struggled with injuries in recent years, having played just 10 games over the past two seasons and missing all of 2024 due to a persistent foot issue that required surgery.
The Sea Eagles have offered Taukeiaho a train-and-trial deal, similar to the one they gave forward Nathan Brown earlier this season. After undergoing comprehensive medical evaluations, Taukeiaho has been cleared by Manly’s high-performance staff to resume full training.
Though he initially agreed to play for the Bulldogs last season, his injury prevented him from taking the field. He will now join Manly and has the opportunity to earn a spot on their 30-man roster if he performs well in the trials.
A Manly source told Wide World of Sports that Taukeiaho’s experience and physicality will be valuable for the team, especially in mentoring the younger forwards, and his local ties make him a good fit. Taukeiaho is expected to formally sign his contract next week.
