Following Spurs’ Europa League loss to Galatasaray this evening, Ange Postecoglou spoke to the media and had a lot to say about the team’s lack of poise.

Spurs were all over the place against Galatasaray

Tottenham Hotspur knew going into tonight’s match at RAMS Park that they would have a difficult time against a Galatasaray team that has won every game of the season.

But after seeing a makeshift back four repeatedly give up the ball, Ange Postecoglou probably anticipated much, much better from his team.

Spurs ultimately paid for their inability to adequately mark Victor Osimhen, as the Nigerian striker ended up scoring two goals that evening.

Despite being down to 10 men following Will Lankshear’s red card, Tottenham managed to rally and escape with a reasonably respectable 3-2 scoreline, but the Lilywhites’ numerous errors are truly concerning.

Ange Postecoglou not happy with carelessness in possession

After the game, Ange Postecoglou talked about his Spurs vs. Galatasaray team and their inadequacies that evening (via Football.London). He maintained that they lost the game primarily because of their performance in the first half.

“We gave the ball away too much in the first half,” he remarked. We suffered as a result of our lack of poise, which gave Galatasaray an advantage in the match.

It simply seemed self-inflicted. We had really easy ways to keep the ball out there. It wasn’t that difficult. With ten men, we demonstrated it. All we needed to do was play the weekly style of football and get stronger with the ball.

The moments that stand out to me were giving the ball away, though it might have had something to do with the adjustments I made as well as the setting and ambiance. With ten men, we were simply getting past them, but with eleven men, we lacked that conviction, which was disheartening.

Too little too late for Spurs

The fact that we should have at least one point at the conclusion of the game and that we would have achieved a fantastic outcome in a very challenging game if it weren’t for some truly disheartening errors in the first half is rather depressing.
