Early extensions and quarterback queries emphasise the difficult choices LA will have to make in the offseason.
The Los Angeles Rams’ 2024 season has been extremely difficult, and with a number of crucial decisions coming up this offseason, things could get even more complicated. Whether Matthew Stafford will continue to be the star in Hollywood for the upcoming season is one of LA’s greatest questions.
The Rams are one of 12 teams that could have a new starting quarterback in 2025, according to The Athletic. The prospect that LA may “operate year-to-year with Stafford understanding the potential of a healthy roster with him” was raised by reporter and team insider Jourdan Rodrigue.
It’s worth noting that Matthew Stafford will turn 37 in February and that he essentially restructured his contract this summer to reflect a one-year deal with the option to renegotiate after this season. Stafford is now on a six-game interception drought that began against the Bears in Week 4 and has been incredibly unimpressive through nine games. The Rams are unlikely to cut the veteran quarterback this offseason, but if they do, it would be wise for the front management to keep him on a one-year contract with a potential replacement in waiting.
The Rams then have to make some (simple) choices about re-signing domestic players. Additionally, Rodrigue stated that Byron Young, Steve Avila, Kobie Turner, and Puka Nacua are all possible candidates for early extensions after the 2025 campaign. Once more, those are the simplest and most important choices the team needs to make in order to be competitive in the NFC.
The Rams will surely have a very intriguing and long offseason. To be honest, not much needs to be done to assist the roster get back into the running like it did in the second half of the previous season.
