Cornerback Jaire Alexander of the Green Bay Packers has been placed on the reserve/suspended list due to “conduct detrimental to the team” related to his involvement in the coin toss before to their 33-30 victory over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

“We never make this choice lightly, and suspending a player is never an easy one. Regretfully, we had to take this action because of Jaire’s behavior before the game in Carolina,” said Brian Gutekunst, general manager of the Packers. “Everyone in our organization is expected to prioritize the team. Despite our disappointment, Jaire and I had a productive chat this morning, and we anticipate that he will use this as a lesson as we go forward together. He is a valued component of this team and always will be, so we are excited to have him return next week.”

The Minnesota Vikings, with whom the 7-8 Packers are currently tied for first place in the NFC North, are the team Alexander will miss on Sunday.

Alexander joined the three game captains of the Packers, Aaron Jones, Quay Walker, and Eric Wilson, at midfield before to last Sunday’s coin toss. Alexander correctly called tails, winning the toss. The cornerback then expressed his desire to play defense to referee Alex Kemp. Alexander replied in the affirmative when Kemp enquired as to whether he meant to defer.

Alexander later recalled, “I told them, ‘I want our defense to be out there,’ and they all looked at me like I was crazy.” “I mean, what I stated is quite basic; I just want the defense to be made public. “You mean defer?” they ask, and I reply, “Yeah, I guess.”

Fans may believe that if a team wins the coin toss, they get to decide whether to kick or return to start the game, with the knowledge that the game will start in the other direction for the second half.
