Former Chicago Bears linebacker Trevis Gipson has opened up about his NFL journey, making a bold and candid statement: “Leaving the Chicago Bears was the worst decision I ever made.”

Gipson, a fifth-round pick by the Bears in the 2020 NFL Draft, had his most impactful season in 2021. He recorded 39 tackles, seven sacks, and forced five fumbles, showcasing his potential as a defensive force. Despite his contributions, the Bears waived him on August 29, 2023, during their final roster cuts, paving the way for a whirlwind of team changes.

In a span of just over a year, Gipson transitioned from the Tennessee Titans (August 2023) to the Jacksonville Jaguars (March 2024), and eventually to the Seattle Seahawks (August 2024) via trade. While these moves were opportunities to grow and adapt, Gipson admits they didn’t compare to his time in Chicago.

Speaking about his departure, Gipson reflected, “Chicago felt like home. The city, the fans, and the team embraced me from day one. I’ve learned a lot since then, but nothing matches the pride of wearing that Bears jersey.”

Fans in Chicago have mixed emotions. While many remember Gipson’s fiery 2021 season, others feel his career since leaving has been a lesson in the challenges of finding stability in the NFL.

As Gipson now suits up for the Seahawks, he carries a piece of Chicago with him. Whether or not he’ll get another chance to rewrite his story with the Bears remains uncertain, but one thing is clear,Trevis Gipson’s heart remains tethered to Soldier Field.
