The Friedkin Group is getting ready to take over at Goodison Park, and Everton has already begun working on possible additions for the January transfer window.
Since Everton has some players surplus to requirements and a couple contract problems, the January transfer window won’t just be about incomings.
Numerous clubs have expressed interest in Dominic Calvert-Lewin, whose contract is set to expire in the summer, leaving his future uncertain.
In the meantime, it appears like Michael Keane will sign a pre-contract with a team within the next month or two, creating a summer opening.
Beto may be going on loan in January since he has somewhat lost favor at Everton and Juventus has already expressed interest.
It’s interesting to note that the Friedkin Group’s transfer plans have been made public, suggesting that Goodison Park may see some new arrivals.
The January transfer window signings the Friedkin Group want to make at Everton
An all-out attacking midfielder and some help at left-back seem like the most obvious additions to make, but it’s unclear if those will actually happen.
Last time out against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Dwight McNeil appeared to be much more dangerous playing back on the right side.
Transfer plans for January are reportedly being developed with the goal of fortifying the team’s backbone, according to iNews.
Nevertheless, PSR is a factor that will influence spending even with the Friedkins’ affluence.
What could the strengthening be with the team’s spine?
A striker, central midfielder, central defense, goalie, and perhaps an offensive midfielder are considered the team’s spine.
Although Everton is unlikely to add players in every one of those positions, a few do make sense.
Given that Jake O’Brien, Michael Keane, and James Tarkowski are still with the team, a center defender might only be a feasible option if Jarrad Branthwaite departs.
Asmir Begovic and Joao Virginia are still waiting for an opportunity, and Jordan Pickford has been excellent, so the goalkeeping situation won’t need to be changed.
As was already noted, acquiring an attacking midfielder would be wise, but given the return of Tim Iroegbunam and James Garner, a center midfielder seems like a bit of a waste.
There is adequate cover there because Armando Broja, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Youssef Chermiti, and Beto will soon be vying for the same spot.
