Sam Burgess, head coach of Warrington Wolves, has denied rumors of a fallout between him and prop Paul Vaughan. Speculation emerged after the 2024 season ended, as Vaughan returned to Australia for the off-season and reports suggested a potential move to the NRL’s Parramatta Eels.
Despite the chatter, Vaughan rejoined the Wolves for pre-season training earlier this month. Burgess has since reiterated Vaughan’s importance to the team.
“I love Vaughany and what he brings to the club,” Burgess said. “There was more speculation than usual, but I never wanted him to go anywhere. He’s been great since returning, and I’m happy he’s part of our plans.”
The rumors may persist as Vaughan enters the final year of his contract. New recruitment rules allow players in his position to negotiate deals for 2026 and beyond earlier than previously permitted. However, Burgess appears confident Vaughan will remain a key part of the squad for 2025.
Recruitment Updates from Warrington Wolves
Burgess has strengthened the squad with three new signings: half-back Oli Leyland, second-rower Dan Russell, and rugby union convert Alfie Johnson. While hinting at the possibility of further additions, Burgess expressed confidence in the current lineup.
“It’s always a fluid market, and we’ve got a bit of cap space,” he noted. “For now, I’m happy with the squad we’ve assembled, but we’ll stay open to opportunities as they arise.”
As Warrington Wolves gear up for the new season, Burgess is optimistic about the team’s potential and ready to adapt to any challenges that may come.
