Paul Gascoigne posted a picture of himself attempting to avoid a streaker during his Middlesbrough days to wish his social media followers a “Merry Christmas” in the most Gascoigne-esque way possible.
Legendary English player Paul Gascoigne once expressed to his supporters his wish that “it could be Christmas everyday” in what is undoubtedly the most “Gazza-esque mode.”
Gascoigne, who is well-known for his antics on and off the field, posted a picture of himself and a streaker who approached him during a game last year on social media.
Gazza, who was playing for Middlesbrough at the time, was playing his old team, Newcastle United, at the Riverside back in 1998. Although the two sides played to a tense 2-2 tie, the outcome of the derby match was not the main topic of conversation.
No, the game’s most talked-about moment occurred when Vanessa Richards and her friend Rachel Sadler met Gazza halfway through the match. Wearing a cap, a Christmas skirt, and nothing to protect their chests, the two rushed onto the Riverside pitch.
Naturally, the crowd cheered the incident, and Gascoigne smiled broadly before trying to avoid the two people who later claimed to have “made his [Gascoigne’s] day.”
Additionally, the former England player used social media to remind his fans of the fateful confrontation that took place at the Riverside last Christmas. A picture of Gascoigne and Richards was shared on X, with the amusing remark, “I wish it could be Christmas everyday, Merry Christmas xxxxxxxxxx.”
It is logical to assume that his followers were eager to respond to his Christmas message. “Gazza, you were always the center of attention and a true entertainer,” one fan replied.
Another said: “Excellent player with a lot of charisma. Enjoy your Christmas Gazza. “Merry Christmas Gazza, all the best you legend,” said a third. The fourth person said, “Football fell off.”
One more person added, “The one the only.” The two streakers were detained in a Boro prison cell for six hours following the game. Additionally, Richards and Sadler were given a court date, a conditional discharge for a year, and a one-year ban from Middlesbrough games for their pretty raunchy pitch invasion.
