Cleveland Cavaliers center Jarrett Allen recently opened up about the trade rumors surrounding him last summer. Allen, who has been an integral part of the Cavaliers’ rotation, admitted that he understood the business side of the NBA and was prepared for any outcome.
“I get it. I’ve been traded before, and I know how things work,” Allen said in an interview. “If I wasn’t part of the plan, so be it. I’ve been in this situation before.”
Fortunately for Allen, Cavaliers head coach Kenny Atkinson was keen on keeping him around. Atkinson believed that Allen’s skillset, particularly his defensive prowess, would be crucial in the playoffs.
“We had discussions about whether Jarrett and Evan Mobley could work together, but I believed it could work,” Atkinson said. “I knew Jarrett’s skillset, and I knew how important a versatile lineup is in the playoffs.”
Allen has been a dominant force for the Cavaliers this season, averaging 13.6 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game. However, with the addition of De’Andre Hunter, Allen has found himself on the bench during closing lineups.
Despite this role change, Allen has accepted the adjustment, trusting Atkinson’s decision-making. “It’s not really difficult for me,” Allen said. “I trust Kenny wholeheartedly. Sometimes I wish I was out there, but I understand why I’m not.”
Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell praised Allen’s selflessness, calling him “Mr. Consistent.” Mitchell highlighted Allen’s ability to adapt to different situations and his commitment to the team.
“He’s always going to be there for us,” Mitchell said. “He’s the ultimate team guy. No matter what happens, he finishes or doesn’t finish, he’s always going to have a smile on his face and be ready.”
As the Cavaliers continue their push for the NBA championship, Allen’s role will be crucial. While he may not be starting in every game, his defensive prowess and rebounding ability will be essential in the playoffs.
The Cavaliers’ success this season can be attributed to the team’s chemistry and cohesion. With players like Allen, Mobley, and Mitchell, Cleveland has built a strong foundation that could lead them to the NBA Finals
