An important All-Star pitcher is being told by the New York Yankees, “We’re good.”

According to a story published on Sunday by Bob Nightengale of USA Today, Marcus Stroman, a free agent, has expressed his “serious interest” in signing with the Yankees. But Nightengale notes that Stroman was not extended an offer by the Yankees.

After pitching 10-9 with a 3.95 ERA with the Chicago Cubs in the previous season, Stroman was selected to his second All-Star team in his career. However, he doesn’t strike out many batters, will be 33 in May, and hasn’t tossed 200 innings in a season since 2017. Concerns about Stroman’s maturity have also plagued him, particularly in light of his prior stay in New York.

The Yankees have been extremely frugal with their summer spending, turning down another high-profile free agent because of a purported flaw in his game. That Stroman once openly mocked the idea of joining the Yankees definitely doesn’t help either.
