Transfer to Tennessee Gerald Mincey expressed his excitement in playing for his old team.
LEXINGTON: It’s reasonable to say that Gerald Mincey, the new offensive lineman for the Wildcats, is the most enthusiastic about Kentucky’s Nov. 2 trip to Neyland Stadium to play the Tennessee Volunteers.
After spending his first two collegiate seasons at Florida, Mincey moved to Tennessee to play for the Vols in 2022 and 2023. He started 14 games for the Vols, eight of them at left tackle and six at right tackle. Nov. 2 was brought up four times by Mincey at his Wednesday morning press appearance in Lexington.
“I think I owe it to all the Kentucky fans that we got to handle business on November 2,” stated Mincey.
Here we are in Lexington, where Mincey was first expected to begin his college career. On February 11, 2019, the 6’6″, 337-pound offensive tackle made his high school commitment to Kentucky. However, he later changed his mind, moving to Gainesville and Knoxville, before returning to the Bluegrass State.
“Coach Gran (then offensive coordinator) Eddie Gran was the first to offer from an SEC school,” stated Mincey. “Now I have a chance to be a part of the Big Blue Wall and I’m excited.”
Mincey did not play in the Vols 2022 victory over the Cats, but he did start at right tackle in the team’s 33-27 victory against Kentucky at Kroger Field in the previous season.
“The workouts have been intense. It’s time for me to tell you that. I thought,Oh no, I was unaware that the guys put in a lot of work, but it’s evident. In reference to his former rivals becoming teammates, Mincey noted, “They work out that hard.” It’s great; I’ve had a great time.
“I just can’t wait for November 2.”
Ever since declaring his intention to move to Tennessee, Mincey has received a lot of criticism from the enthusiastic supporters on his choice to join the North American competitors.

For the majority of the previous forty years, Tennessee has dominated the Wildcats.
The Volunteers are 9-2 since Mark Stoops took over as UK’s head coach prior to the 2013 season. They have won each of the last three games, 36 of the team’s previous 39 contests, and the last meeting between the two bitter rivals.
Mincey is aware that he has a lot to accomplish and garner the respect of Tennessee and the Volunteer fan base this autumn.
Mincey stated, “Kentucky has to want to earn it.” “The underdog has my heart.”
“When we go there to November 2 to Neyland and bust them in the mouth we’ll put the standard back over here.”

Guard Antonio Reeves of Kentucky men’s basketball continues to garner national attention. The Los Angeles Athletic Club included him to the Wooden Award Late Season Top 20 Watch List on Tuesday night.
Reeves is now among the front-runners for the esteemed award that goes to the best player in both men’s and women’s college hoops. Based on their performances throughout the 2023–24 season, a national poll of collegiate basketball experts selected the 20 student-athletes.
The Wooden Award National Ballot, which contains of 15 elite players who have demonstrated to their institutions that they fulfill or beyond the Wooden Award’s requirements, is still open to players who were not selected for the late season list. Next week, the Wooden Award All-American Team will be revealed.of the NCAA Tournament’s “Elite Eight,” with the champion being announced in April when the competition concludes.
Reeves is having a fantastic season. He leads the Wildcats with 19.5 points per game and records career highs in field goal percentage (50.2%), 3-point percentage (43.1%), and free throw percentage (87.3%). Reeves was also named to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame’s Top 10 list for the 2024 Jerry West Award earlier on Tuesday.
Together with Tennessee’s Dalton Knecht and Auburn’s Johni Broome, he is one of three SEC players ranked in the last 20.
The Chicago native scored 27 points against Illinois State after scoring 30 points in a victory at Louisville. Reeves became just the fourth player from the UK to score thirty or more points against Louisville in the series. After scoring thirty points in Louisville, Reeves became Oscar Tshiebwe’s teammate.
The only players to have multiple games with 30 or more points during the John Calipari era are Jamal Murray (3), Malik Monk (4), and (4).
This season, Reeves has scored more than ten points in ten games and more than double figures in all but one of them. He joins 2022 National Player of the Year Tshiebwe as the only other UK player under Calipari to have 20 career 20-or-more scoring attempts. He has scored more than 20 points seven times in his career while traveling.
He scored more over 2,000 points in his career against Georgia, combining his time at Kentucky and Illinois State. He’s only 142 points away from breaking the 1,000-point mark as a Wildcat.
In its history, the United Kingdom has produced two winners of the Wooden Award: Anthony Davis (2012) and Oscar Tshiebwe (2022).
