There may be another notable addition to the New England Patriots’ coaching staff. The Patriots are reportedly in talks to add former New York Giants head coach Ben McAdoo to Jerod Mayo’s coaching staff, per a report from Albert Breer of Monday Morning Quarterback.

Although McAdoo’s specific position is still unknown, Breer surmises that it would be similar to that of an associate head coach to support new offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt.

Before that, he was the offensive coordinator for the Giants. When he was the offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers in 2022, he lost his job in the NFL. He also worked as a consultant with the Dallas Cowboys and as a quarterbacks coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

In terms of scoring, McAdoo’s offenses in New York were 13th and sixth, respectively. Neither as a head coach nor in his one-year tenure in Carolina, where they never placed higher than 20th in the NFL, did he enjoy the same level of success.

The Patriots’ offensive was the main reason they finished worst in the NFL in terms of points scored in 2023, so they need to make some significant changes.
