Lance Stroll claims that Aston Martin’s “goal” for the 2018 Formula One season isn’t to defeat Red Bull, who have dominated the competition since the introduction of the current aerodynamic regulations in 2022.

Red Bull and three-time world champion Max Verstappen have been unbeatable for the past two seasons. The only driver who wasn’t a Red Bull employee to challenge the Dutchman in the first half of 2023 was Fernando Alonso, until Aston Martin’s performance faltered.

Despite this, the Silverstone-based team shown last year that they are capable of competing against the best team in the sport; according to Aston Martin Technical Director Dan Fallows, Red Bull is “absolutely beatable”.

But rather than going after the Austrians, Stroll has pointed out that the rising team is only aiming to be the “strongest” they can be after the introduction of their 2024 F1 rival, the AMR24, on Tuesday morning.

Going ahead, Stroll wants to compete for victories and take the battle to Red Bull, but this is more of a long-term goal at this point.

Stroll has stated that Aston Martin is still working hard behind the scenes and that more work is ahead of them, even if they have just recently removed the covers from their new vehicle (a shakedown test has already been carried out). However, he also notes that a quicker car is needed to fight with Red Bull.

“I don’t think defeating Red Bull is actually our main objective. We intend to arrive there someday, after all. Essentially, though, we just want to be the best team we can be. Our goal is to become a much stronger team, and we have a lot of ideas and stuff in the works to do that.
