NFL Free Agents: Tennessee Titans matched with receiver and cornerback
Nashville, Tennessee It’s that time of year again—the NFL offseason—when rumors around free agency are rampant. On March 13, the Tennessee Titans, who have over $65 million in salary cap room, are mentioned as possible suitors. ESPN just published an article about players who would be ideal fits after releasing a list of the top 50 free agents. The two players most likely to join the Tennessee Titans are cornerback Chidobe Awuzie of the Cincinnati Bengals and wide receiver Marquise Brown of the Arizona Cardinals, according to matchmaker Matt Bowen of ESPN. Bowen thinks the speedy Brown would mesh well with D’Andre Hopkins of the Titans as the team looks to revamp the receiving room with offensive coordinator Nick Holz and new coach Brian Callahan.
“Brown would add a different element to the Titans’ wide receiver room because of his vertical stretch ability and open-field speed after the catch on in-breakers,” Bowen stated. “Brown has 28 touchdowns in his career, 10 of which have come on throws of 20 yards or more in air yards (four with the Cardinals in 2023). Brown would combine with Treylon Burks and DeAndre Hopkins in coach Brian Callahan’s playbook to provide quarterback Will Levis with a flexible group of pass-catchers.” Callah and Awuzie would reconnect.
offensive coordinator for the Bengals. “The Titans need some veteran help in the secondary, as they allowed the league’s third-worst completion percentage to opponents (67.8%),” stated Bowen. Awuzie is 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, and he possesses the agility and closing speed to play off the ball in zone systems in addition to his man coverage abilities to battle on the perimeter. Dennard Wilson, the new defensive coordinator, will be happy with this. Despite not having a selection with Cincinnati in 2023, Awuzie had 57 tackles and forced a turnover.
How much could Brown and Awuzie be paid? Pro Football Focus, a sports analytics company that rates each NFL player’s performance, estimates that Brown will get a one-year contract worth $12 million and Awuzie will sign a two-year contract with an average of $10.5 million. There are two Titans listed by ESPN. Derrick Henry, a running back, gets matched with the Baltimore Ravens with pick number 37. With the Minnesota Vikings, cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting (No. 38) is partnered.
