Florida Analyst Hired by Washington State to Coach Cornerbacks

According to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports, Allen Brown, a Florida analyst, will be joining Washington State as the Cougars’ cornerbacks coach. With the Gators in 2023, Brown worked as a defensive backs quality control analyst under former Florida secondary coach Corey Raymond, who was fired from the program in November of last year.
Before spending a year in Gainesville, Brown worked as a quality control analyst at California (2022), as a defensive pass game coordinator and cornerbacks coach at Eastern Washington University (2019–21), and as a cornerbacks coach at Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo (2015–18).
The appointment will take Brown back to his home state of Washington from Tacoma. Between 2009 and 2013, he was Eastern Washington’s standout safety, racking up 237 tackles, 15 pass breakups, and four interceptions in 51 games. This offseason, Florida and Washington have established a kind of defensive back coaching pipeline.
Will Harris, a former defensive backs coach at the University of Washington, was hired by UF to take over Raymond’s position and manage the Gators’ secondary going forward, prior to Brown’s impending hiring by Washington State. However, Harris played for the Los Angeles Chargers during the 2023 season. Related: “That’s What I’m About,” Says Will Harris, Accepting the Challenge To Be Florida’s DB Coach
In a special interview with All Gators, Harris stressed the importance of building relationships with the players he mentors in order to bring out the best in them and help them reach their greatest potential. “The wonderful things happen when you connect with someone on a deeper level. At that point, you’ll run through a wall for him and he’ll run to the wall for you, as the saying goes,” Harris remarked. And in order for them to perform at a high level, you need to be able to instill confidence in them. I also learned something from [former head coach of Washington] Chris Petersen: confidence is money. The greater your self-assurance, the greater your wealth.”
Harris’s on-field debut will come on Thursday, March 7, when Florida’s 2024 spring football training camp gets underway, along with the debuts of other new Gators coaches.
