Jets Forced to Fire Robert Saleh and Hire Coach Who Won the Super Bowl
it might be time for some changes.
ESPN radio host, Jake Asman
, said on X previously Twitter that if Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is available, New York Jets Owner Woody Johnson “needs to write a blank check.”
Bringing in Tomlin would be part of a decision to replace current Jets head coach Robert Saleh
.
As the head coach of the Steelers, Tomlin, 51, is currently in his 17th season of coaching.
His two Super Bowl rings are from his tenure as the head coach of the Steelers and his time as an assistant with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Despite this, Tomlin’s legendary winning streak is his greatest claim to fame. The Steelers have ended with a.500 or better record each year that he has been their head coach.
With three games remaining in the 2023 season, Tomlin, who has played for 16 consecutive seasons, is 7-7. Tomlin will need to win two of the final three games to maintain that record.
To put things in perspective, the Jets have only finished with a.500 or higher record six times in that same time frame.
But Tomlin has faced criticism for his lack of postseason success and for perhaps preaching an old message after spending so much time in one spot.
The Steelers were urged to “please fire Mike Tomlin so the Jets can hire him” by Ty Butler, another ESPN radio host.
Breer hinted that Tomlin and the Steelers might decide to split ways amicably. That might happen through a trade or even by a termination.
A WFAN tape that addressed the potential for a Tomlin-Jets trade concept was posted on social media.
