Jewison Bennette on his terrible loan period and his future at Sunderland: “I made bad decisions.”
In January, Jewison Bennette went on loan to Greek team Aris in an attempt to get more playing time with the first team. However, the winger’s time there was miserable, as he was only able to play in the first two games.
Speaking to Teletica back home, Bennette clarified the issues that arose during his loan period:
It was a really difficult year for me because I made poor choices and went to a club that violated every aspect of my contract. I went there on the advice of my agent, who also advised me not to speak to anyone. It was a poor choice, but I’m growing.
I played two games when I first arrived at Aris, and after that they had to pay for my house, car, and salary. I filed a complaint with Sunderland.
and they [Aris] were angry about it. After that, they started to ignore me and remove me from the list. Eventually, I suffered a little injury that prevented me from playing for La Sele [Costa Rica’s national team].
Alvaro Zamora, Bennette’s international teammate, is also signed with Aris. The 19-year-old claims that the main distinction between their experiences is that Bennette was only out on loan:
He didn’t have a team, which is the only thing separating us, but I’m returning. I’ll begin the preseason with Sunderland and wait to find out whether they send me on loan to another team.
My funds had to be used to cover my bills and pay for my house and automobile.
Jewison reiterates that although he made a poor choice, he will now focus on giving Sunderland his all:
I made a poor choice, and I’ve learned from it to never make snap decisions in the future and to focus all of my energy on my team.
A league that is very tight about wages and does not allow arrears would be ideal for loan players; in Greece, wage arrears do exist. The other players have excellent careers, but one young player is saving money for projects.
Bennette is training with his former squad, Herediano, in Costa Rica right now in an attempt to stay in shape before getting called up to the national team.
Svensson’s intriguing Union
Bo Svensson is one of the names connected to the open Sunderland head coach position, but Kristjaan Speakman will need to stave off German interest if Bo Svensson is to move to Wearside.
Kicker reports that Union Berlin, who have Marco Grote as their interim coach, is reportedly interested in Svensson. Grote is reportedly a serious alternative for the Bundesliga team, but according to Kicker, Union and Svensson have now had formal talks.
