Because of an ankle injury, the Cowboys will place McKeon on injured reserve on Wednesday, according to Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Having worn a Cowboys uniform for the previous nine games, McKeon had drawn two passable targets in 94 offensive snaps in addition to making a contribution to the team’s special teams units. Despite not being mentioned as having an injury following Thursday’s victory against the Seahawks, the 25-year-old will now miss at least four games after being placed on injured reserve. In identical fashion, the Cowboys activated fellow tight end Peyton Hendershot (ankle) from injured reserve.

McKeon was added by the Cowboys on Thursday to their 53-man active roster.

In reaction to teammate tight end Peyton Hendershot’s (ankle) placement on injured reserve on Thursday, McKeon was promoted to the practice squad. This season, the 25-year-old has already been raised for two games. He has taken 23 offensive snaps overall and 30 special team snaps. McKeon will most likely be the Cowboys’ third tight end on the roster, behind Luke Schoonmaker and Jake Ferguson, for the remainder of his stay.

On Monday, McKeon returned to the Cowboys practice squad.

McKeon played 17 special teams snaps, six offensive snaps, and even had a tackle after Dak Prescott intercepted a pass. McKeon may play for the third straight game against the Chargers if Peyton Hendershot (ankle) is forced to miss action again the following week.
