Tottenham are weighing two raids on Stuttgart and are ‘fighting’ with Bayern Munich for the more appealing of the deals, according to reports.
Last summer, Bayern Munich signed Harry Kane, probably Tottenham’s finest ever player, in a blockbuster deal.
Kane performed exactly as expected in Germany, scoring 44 goals in 45 matches across all competitions.
Unfortunately for Kane, his pursuit for silverware did not stop with Bayern’s first trophyless season in more than a decade.
Bayer Leverkusen won the Bundesliga, but what went unnoticed was that Bayern did not even finish second in Germany’s premier flight.
Stuttgart surprised Bayern by winning second place by one point. Bayern Munich is aiming to sign the top players from its domestic rivals, as is customary practice.
Bayern Munich are reportedly close to signing Leverkusen centre-back Jonathan Tah. In addition, they are vying for Stuttgart’s Chris Fuhrich.
Fuhrich, 26, is a right-footed left winger who scored 15 goals in the Bundesliga last season.
Fuhrich was just nominated to Germany’s 26-man Euro 2024 squad and could play on home soil this summer.
BILD reports that Bayern Munich is interested in signing the four-cap German international. Unfortunately for Bayern, they are not alone in this race.
Tottenham vs Bayern for Fuhrich: release clause confirmed.
According to German reporters Christian Falk and Tobi Altschaffl, Tottenham Hotspur has shortlisted the wide player.
“Chris Fuhrich is someone we see everyday in the national team here, he has a release clause of €23.5m,” Falk stated.
Altschaffl added: “He’s on Bayern’s list, but he hasn’t decided yet; he’s being courted by a number of clubs.
According to SportBild, Tottenham has expressed interest in him and has him on their list.
“He needs to decide whether he wants to go or if he wants to play another year in Stuttgart in the end.”
Falk’s follow-up on X hinted that the transfer dispute could escalate. Falk stated: “Bayern and Tottenham are fighting for Chris Fuhrich.”
Tottenham spies a second Stuttgart raid.
Spurs are interested in Hiroki Ito, a center-back from Stuttgart, according to various German reports.
Like Fuhrich, Ito’s current contract with Stuttgart has a release clause. The 25-year-old Japan international can be signed for €30 million (£25.5 million).
A double raid for Ito and Fuhrich would cost Tottenham €53.5 million/£45.5 million.
Of However, if Tottenham acts in their own best interests, they may try to reach agreements for amounts lower than the clauses.
Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou already indicated in March that another center-back signing is planned for this summer. This is despite signing Micky van de Ven last summer and Radu Dragusin in January.
“If you’re saying ‘is it an area we can strengthen?’, yes it’s an area we will probably look at,” said the Australian.
“With all of these activities, the goal is to strengthen the group more than anything else. When I originally joined at the club, there were probably six or seven centre-backs. So it’s not all numbers.
“It’s more about those guys’ ability to play the type of football we want and fit into the culture we’re trying to create here.
“I believe this is an area of the park that we will want to strengthen, but I believe we will look to strengthen all aspects of the park before the end of the season. That’s been planned, and other people are in charge of it right now.”
