Newcastle are set to miss out on a teenage sensation that they had been confident of signing this summer transfer window, according to a recent report.
It appears that the Tynesiders are looking to add more players this summer in order to bolster Eddie Howe’s roster in advance of the rapidly coming season.
After just missing out on playing in Europe, it’s evident they’re just a few elite acquisitions away from closing the gap.
They will, however, likely miss out on a reported target.
Newcastle target Chris Rigg set to stay at Sunderland
In May, TBR revealed exclusively that Newcastle was optimistic about acquiring Sunderland midfielder Chris Rigg, who is described as “amazing,” this summer.
Rigg is expected to sign a new deal with the Championship team that will last until 2027, despite their best attempts.
It’s obvious that the 17-year-old believes he would be better off growing at The Black Cats for the time being before maybe moving up to the Premier League.
Given his links to the club, a future move to Newcastle is very definitely still a possibility.
Journalist hints at future Newcastle transfer
When asked in April if the Newcastle team will attempt to recruit Rigg in the future, writer Joel Bland gave a hint that it was a possibility because a large portion of his family is a supporter.
“You’d hope ultimately in the future, since the majority of his family are NUFC fans. However, in my opinion, he’ll remain at Sunderland for the upcoming campaign because everyone is pleased with his growth and exposure to the first squad, Bland answered on X.
Newcastle will have to go elsewhere for the time being, but it’s positive that they’re attempting to assemble a strong roster as part of their new hiring approach.
