Last night, Dane Murray surprised everyone by being named in the Celtic lineup for their match against Ayr United. He replaced Stephen Welsh and played the second half in central defense while donning an armband.
The youthful defender was thrust into the starting lineup under Ange Postecoglou three years ago, making his debut against Midtjylland following Nir Bitton’s dismissal against the Danes.
Murray joined Welsh on the field in the second half as Celtic, in what was to be his only start for a top team, unfortunately lost in extra time.
When he was back with the B squad, he participated actively in the Lowland League until an injury at the age of 18 essentially put an end to his career.
Murray’s career was completely blank the previous season, but it appears like he may be poised to make a comeback after agreeing to a new deal in May. It’s wonderful to have Dane Murray back. I first saw this young man when he was, I think, sixteen or seventeen years old. has suffered a terrible injury but has recovered. Physically large, he moves well, and I’m happy that he is getting playing time for Celtic. Many of the other younger athletes to be given the opportunity to participate. And as I’ve already mentioned, it’s crucial that they not only improve their physical health but also demonstrate that they have the character to play for Celtic. I always think it’s crucial that young players can come in and play fearlessly and go out and prove it. Along with Given Maik Nawrocki’s addition to Gus Lagerbielke’s injured list, Murray has a good chance of making the flight squad.
