Newcastle United transfer target Amario Cozier-Duberry has snubbed a move to Tyneside.

The contract of the former Arsenal youth player, who excelled for the club’s under-21 team the previous season, came to an end at the Emirates. Although Cozier-Duberry, a wide player who has been compared to England star Bukayo Saka, attracted interest from across the Premier League, he signed a contract with Brighton & Hove Albion.

With a revamp of the club’s failing young squads well underway, it comes as a little setback to the Magpies’ youth recruitment plan. Like with Alfie Harrison, a former youth product of Manchester City, United would have considered the 19-year-old to be quite the coup if he had been signed.

Cozier-Duberry, nevertheless, was officially revealed as a Seagulls player on Sunday. Fabrizio Romano, a social media transfer expert, claims that it is evident why Cozier-Duberry choose the south coast over teams like the Magpies.

“#BHAFC beat several Premier League and European clubs to the free signing as they offered a clear pathway,” said Romano.

According to Romano, the youngster chose Brighton because it is more probable that he would be engaged with the first team sooner than he would be elsewhere.

According to reports, the teenage attacker quit the Gunners because his route to the first team was obstructed. The player did not play for Arsenal as a senior once.

David Weir, the technical director of Albion, confirmed the deal by saying, “We’re really pleased to be able to bring Amario to the club.” He has qualities that we like, and we think he’s a player who can succeed in our setting.

“We’re excited to collaborate with him and support his professional development.”

This summer, the Magpies have once again been proactive in their young recruitment strategy, bringing in former Chelsea and West Ham United player Ezra Tika-Lemba as well as Portsmouth’s Chukwudi Afumuzor.
