It won’t be simple to sign the Magpies’ star, though. The Brazilian midfielder’s £100 million release clause just expired, but despite being linked to teams like Manchester City and Arsenal, no club has made a formal offer as of yet.
Newcastle still has four years remaining on his contract, so even though the club does not have the safety net of a nine-figure release clause, they are not in risk of losing their top player.
It seems that Guimaraes is happy where he is in St. James’ Park and has no desire to move away from the Northeast. But as football history has shown time and time again, even the most devoted players fall prey to Real Madrid’s allure.
