The club has agreed to pay Everton midfielder Amadou Onana a record-breaking £50 million to join Aston Villa.
The 22-year-old is scheduled for a physical later this week and is rumored to have signed to a five-year contract at Aston Villa.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano claims that Everton has a sell-on clause included in the £50 million deal. This occurs after it was previously reported that teams like Newcastle United, Manchester United, and Arsenal have interest in the 6′ 6″ midfielder.
Advertisement When Joelinton’s contract predicament made it unclear whether the Brazilian would stay at St. James’ Park, the Magpies looked to Onana as a possible long-term successor. However, as Joelinton inked a new contract, Newcastle’s interest waned, giving Villa the opportunity to seize the opportunity and seal a transaction that will be announced later this week.Romano tweeted, “Amadou Onana to Aston Villa, here we go!” to mark the deal with his trademark “here we go” slogan. A £50 million fee and a sell-on clause were included in the deal.
“A formal offer was granted; Onana will stay at Villa for five years, through June 2029. Next week, an agreement is scheduled to be inked after a medical appointment.
After spending £33 million to join Everton from Lille in 2022, Onana has made 72 appearances and scored four goals in his time with the team. Last season, the Toffees received two charges for violating the Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules, which resulted in a total eight-point deduction.
Onana was absent from the Euro 2024 competition when Belgium was eliminated by France in the round of 16.
