Newcastle United’s summer transfer window is yet to really get up and running with the new campaign now just weeks away.
Eddie Howe has had a difficult time in the market and is still hoping to see his first major signing arrive at St. James’ Park.
Newcastle had a great start to the window as they added the astute Lloyd Kelly on a free when he left Bournemouth.
Despite the addition of a youthful potential for the future and two backup goalkeepers, the Toon have not improved since then.
Next week, Newcastle will go on a pre-season tour to Japan, but it does not appear likely that the Magpies will have a new, high-profile recruit to debut for their Asian supporters.
But during the next several weeks, one guy that they have been watching for months could prove to be a viable choice for Paul Mitchell.
Newcastle have been scouting Spaniard for months
There will be plenty of hope for future developments on Tyneside for Howe and the supporters following Mitchell’s appointment as the new sports director.
Throughout the clubs he has previously worked with, Mitchell has demonstrated his exceptional recruiting abilities, bringing players like Heung-min Son to the Premier League.
He is still awaiting Newcastle’s first acquisition, Malick Thiaw, who is rumored to be interested in joining from AC Milan.
Howe is obviously eager to strengthen the defense this summer, as seen by the fact that the Toon are keeping an eye on a promising full-back from Spain.
Fabrizio Romano reports that UD Almeria right-back Marc Pubill is attracting interest from a number of teams, including Newcastle.
The transfer specialist is adamant that although the Magpies are interested in the 21-year-old, they have not yet made an approach.
For several months, Newcastle has been observing Pubill; yet, there has been no progress or communication between the two teams.
Not only are the Toon shown interest, but several other Italian teams, including as Roma, are also present.
Newcastle could land their Kieran Trippier successor in Marc Pubill
Right-back could well be an area which Newcastle find themselves needing to add to this summer. Kieran Trippier’s future at Newcastle is in doubt with interest coming from Saudi Arabia in the England international. In Pubill, Newcastle could land themselves a really exciting young full-back who the Almeria website claim to be a ‘fast player’ who is a crossing expert. Granted, Pubill still has little experience at the top level and has not returned anywhere near the same figures which Trippier did last season. But this is a player who is gaining a lot of interest from across Europe despite having only played 11 times in a top flight division.
