Jamie Miley is open to leaving Newcastle United on loan this summer as he looks to follow in younger brother Lewis’ footsteps.
Lewis, who is 17 years old, made his Champions League debut and became the club’s youngest-ever Premier League goalscorer last season after breaking into Eddie Howe’s starting lineup with 26 games.
Jamie’s significant knee injury from October meant he could only watch from the stands as he healed. In March, he returned to action for the under-21s, coinciding with Lewis’s penultimate Newcastle appearance.
Lewis had a back injury that kept him out of the next ten games. The teenager had an unexpected metatarsal injury a few days before he was scheduled to come back for preseason at the beginning of July.
Giving an update on his brother, Jamie stated, “He’s getting there, getting over it but it’s just one of those things in football and we give each other the support we need.”
As I spotted him while I was sprinting toward him, I thought, “Oh my goodness, what just happened? I didn’t think it would be as horrible as it was, but sometimes you just have to support one another.
“The entire year. Although we are brothers, we are also the greatest of friends, so we encourage one another and let each other know when the other needs a little shove in the ass.
“In football, everything happens at various times. We are there for one another, and when things go tough, we help one another get through it.
They both played in the United preseason last year, starting the game together against Gateshead before leaving for the Premier League Summer Series in the United States.
This time, despite one player’s absence, the other has contributed significantly. He began the 2-0 triumph over Hull City and entered the game as a second-half replacement in the 4-1 victory against Urawa Red Diamonds. Jamie claimed a helper’s credit for both matches.
“Obviously, I was in America last year, but I was unfortunate to have the knee injury,” Jamie continued. I’ve been playing center midfield for the majority of my career and I’m trying to stay healthy. I’m also loving playing right back. I will play wherever the manager wants me to.
“You have to gain his trust, and once you have, you have to live up to his expectations. Hopefully, you may progress as long as you continue in that manner and demonstrate to the boss your reliability.”
While Jamie’s greatest ambition is to play in Newcastle’s midfield with his brother, the 20-year-old acknowledges that he could have to choose a different route and go out on loan
Regarding his future, he stated, “We’ll see what happens in the coming weeks and before the transfer window ends and whether I can maybe go out on loan but I’m not sure yet.” We’ll see what transpires, but ideally the larger plan is to remain here permanently and carry out my brother’s actions.
“I hope I can play as many minutes as I can on a regular first-team basis this season. I’d like to stay in the leagues year, but wherever I get the opportunity to play.
