Newcastle United are reportedly closing in on a deal for Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi.
Newcastle United is making progress in their discussions to recruit England international Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace, according to recent reports from i News.
Positive conversations between the teams imply that Guehi, who is supposedly excited about the transfer, may be moving to St. James’ Park shortly.
Newcastle could start transfer chain
Guehi’s anticipated arrival to Newcastle may start a big transfer chain. The Magpies may have to sell some of their star players in order to get the money they need since they must balance their books to account for Guehi’s transfer.
Anthony Gordon is a strong contender to go, having been strongly linked to Liverpool this summer.
A previous agreement that would have paid Joe Gomez £45 million to Newcastle and sent Gordon to Anfield for £75 million was almost finalized. But Liverpool’s pursuit of Gordon is now in jeopardy due to Newcastle’s decision to back out of this agreement after successfully selling Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh.
Liverpool may reconsider the approach later in the transfer season, according to a recent report, despite the setback suggesting that their interest in Gordon is still significant.
Although Newcastle will have lost a fantastic player to a top 4 opponent, they may be able to acquire the financial freedom required to allow Guehi’s departure if Gordon is sold to Anfield.
The next several weeks will be critical in deciding if Newcastle can complete the high-profile purchase of Guehi and whether Anthony Gordon will actually go to Anfield as a result.
