Premier League: Everton is “stepping up” talks to sign Jens Cajuste from Napoli as Sean Dyche looks to bolster his midfield options this month, according to TEAMtalk. The Toffees recently sold midfield talisman Amadou Onana to Premier League rivals Aston Villa, and now they’re looking for a replacement. Cajuste has become a top target after his proposed move to Brentford fell through, and TEAMtalk reports that Napoli are now trying to secure a move for the Swedish international with executives in the UK to hold talks with interested clubs.
According to the source, Dyche intends to bring the 25-year-old to Goodison Park this month, and Everton is now in “active talks” to sign Cajuste on a potential loan agreement.
Cajuste is eager to play in the Premier League, but there may be more competition for Everton as the source claims Brentford and Ipswich Town are also interested in acquiring the Swedish midfielder.
According to TEAMtalk, Napoli will want to include a buy option in any loan agreement. However, considering Transfermarkt values the 6′ 2″ midfielder at just £8 million, a permanent transfer shouldn’t be too expensive.
Back up options
The article claims that Everton is preparing backup plans in case they are unable to reach an agreement for Cajuste. Due of Lesley Ugochuwku’s impending departure from Chelsea this summer, the Toffees have also shown a strong interest in the midfielder.
After moving from Rennes to Stamford Bridge last year, Ugochuwku has struggled to make an impression, and Everton may have offered him the opportunity to revive his career at Goodison Park.
If Everton is unable to sign Cajuste, they will need to find another target because it looks the France U21 international is going to Southampton on loan.
Even though they didn’t have a lot of money to spend this summer, Everton did well to add players that will bolster their roster.
Prior to the arrival of Marseille-born Ilyman Ndiaye, the 2022–23 Sheffield United player of the year, they recruited extremely talented center-back Jake O’Brien from Lyon.
Additionally, they finalized the loan signing of Jesper Lindstrom from Napoli and Aston Villa, respectively, and the permanent signing of Tim Ireogbunam.
Cajuste’s addition would bolster Sean Dyche’s team even more and increase their chances of making it out of the Premier League the following year.
