Augsburg allegedly informed Celtic that they are holding out for £10 million in exchange for Arne Engels.
The 20-year-old Belgian wants to sign with Brendan Rodgers’ team before the transfer window shuts, and it seems the Bundesliga team is easing their strict position on him after previously demanding up to £12 million for the midfield player. In an attempt to test the determination of the Bavarian team, Celtic has made a second offer in the area of £9 million after their first offer, which was rejected, was rejected for around £6.5 million.
However, according to The Sun, Augsburg is seeking “closer to £10m” for a player who is reportedly Celtic’s top target and the person who will take Matt O’Riley’s place in the midfield engine room of the Hoops. The champions would break the record for the most money paid out for a player for the second time this transfer window if they accept the demands of the German team, surpassing the £9.5 million paid to get Adam Idah from Norwich City.
Mateusz Bogusz is expected to be named in the LAFC roster for their matchup with the Seattle Sounders, thus it appears that a transaction including him may also come down to the wire. Record Sport is aware that the Scottish Premiership winners are still considering an offer for Bogusz, but it is less than what the Major League Soccer team is asking for.
The two sides are still in negotiations as Celtic looks to add the Pole, who was recently sighted in Washington State before of their US Open Cup match on Thursday morning. Despite being spotted in training, it’s unclear if he’ll be in the starting lineup while Celtic try to close a deal.
Auston Trusty is the target of a £5 million proposal from Celtic, and Sheffield United manager Chris Wilders has acknowledged that the Blades must evaluate bids before the deadline. During the EFL Cup loss to Barnsley, the US international was benched.
Speaking at full-time to the BBC, Wilder was pressed on dropping stars amid rising interest. He responded: “I have had no issues with the boys. There is obviously interest in a few of them and I have talked to the boys, we have dialogue, and I want to talk to them and tell them what is best for them. I just want them to concentrate on that green bit and putting in performances, and the rest takes care of itself.”
