When everyone is fit, which Newcastle United matchday roster does Eddie Howe think is the strongest?
After the international break, Newcastle United will play their first Premier League match this weekend when they travel to Wolves.
Eddie Howe’s team made a statement against a direct opponent in Europe with their most recent victory over Tottenham Hotspur, and it will give them great confidence that they can produce victories even when they aren’t playing at their best.
They had a lackluster summer transfer window, but even though they didn’t add many players, they still have a strong team that has a good chance of making it back to the European football league. After serving a ten-month ban, Sandro Tonali is back, and in the few games he has played, he has looked impressive.
The club still has standout players in Bruno Guimaraes, Anthony Gordon, and Alexander Isak, while Kieran Trippier and eventually Callum Wilson offer excellent depth and experience as bench warmers.
The Magpies have a ton of excellent alternatives with Sven Botman still to return and Joe Willock, provided he gets over his fitness concerns. When everyone is healthy, though, which team is Eddie Howe’s best?
GK: Nicholas Pope
Pope is Newcastle United’s best goalkeeper this season after making many excellent saves against Spurs.
RB: Tino Livramento
To keep Trippier out of the starting lineup this season, Livramento will perform admirably. But thus far, he’s performed admirably, making it challenging for Howe to let him go.
Fabian Schar on the CB
Schar is still the team’s top center defender right now, despite getting sent off against Southampton.
Sven Botman, CB
Dan Burn has been excellent this season, so when he returns from injury, Botman could find it difficult to replace him right immediately. But the Dutchman has proven his excellent qualities, and perhaps he will again when he rejoins the team.
Lewis Hall (LB)
Although Hall still has to work on his game, he has proven to be a very capable left-back, especially when it comes to offensive situations.
CM: Tonali Sandro
Since making his comeback to action in the middle of the week, Tonali has displayed flashes of brilliance, and he is eager to continue doing so this season.
Bruno Guimaraes, CM
As the team’s captain, Guimaraes serves as the unifying force among the group. Their success will be based on him because he has performed admirably thus far this season.
CM: Joelinton
Joelinton was outstanding at Southampton and was instrumental in setting up Isak’s winning goal versus Spurs. Howe will benefit greatly this season with having Joelinton healthy.
Anthony Gordon, RW
Gordon was fantastic the previous season, and maybe he can repeat that performance this time around.
ST: Isak Alexander
Isak has scored his first goal of the year; will he be able to top his incredible goal return from the previous season?
Harvey Barnes, LW
Barnes has the potential to be his team’s game-winning player and the one who can save them points and victories if he can avoid injuries.
