When the Mavericks begin the 2024–25 season, they will have a strong roster.
A little more than a month remains until the NBA season begins, and the Dallas Mavericks want to win the Western Conference again. They’ve added Klay Thompson, Naji Marshall, Quentin Grimes, and Spencer Dinwiddie to reload around Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic. Dallas believes they have the assets to win a title.
HoopsHype has unveiled their yearly Top 100 list for the 2024–25 NBA season, which ranks players based on their staff polls as projected NBA players. here offseason, they’ve already gone position by position, however here is a ranking of each player and position. Six Mavericks, including second-place finisher Luka Doncic, cracked the top 100.
fresh incorporation Klay Thompson began their ranking at number one because they think he’ll see more open space since Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic will be putting things up for him. Even though he may not be the same player as he once was, HoopsHype thinks the Mavs will still benefit from having him as a starter.
Dereck Lively II, who placed 99th on the list despite the possibility of splitting playing time with Daniel Gafford the following season, was just ahead of Thompson. The youthful big has a high floor thanks to his 1.39 points per possession on rolls to the basket, but HoopsHype thinks he can do even better.
P.J. Washington, who is still in the 90s, scored 94 points, and HoopsHype thinks he’ll have a stronger season now that he’s had time to hone his jumpshot and become acquainted with the system. His acquisition by the Mavs during the previous season’s trade deadline greatly contributed to their late-season defensive improvement.
Kyrie Irving came in a little lower than anticipated, ranking 33rd. Jimmy Butler, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Rudy Gobert were the three athletes standing in front of him. His availability throughout the regular season is a contributing factor in his lower ranking; he hasn’t participated in more than 60 games in a season since playing for the Celtics in 2018–19. His performance was outstanding.
There was significant dispute among their personnel, but Doncic was only ranked lower than Nikola Jokic. Doncic, who was overlooked for the award the previous season, has a strong chance of winning his first MVP award this year. Thanks to Nico Harrison’s roster management, he has the best talent surrounding him that he has ever had, thus this might be a memorable season for the Slovenian.
The most unexpected finding was Irving’s ranking of 33rd, but their injury excuses made some sense. Daniel Gafford, who also made a significant influence on the club after being acquired in March, is the lone player who may have been on the roster, but Lively has a better upside than Gafford.
