Rico Hines’ private runs in Los Angeles with second-year player Olivier-Maxence Prosper were attended by Klay Thompson, who was spotted with his Dallas Mavericks colleague Dereck Lively II a few days prior. Following his selection in the first round of the 2023 NBA Draft with the 24th pick, Prosper played in 40 games for the Mavericks and 24 games for the Texas Legends, Dallas’ G League club. The dynamic 6-8 big demonstrated his promise with the Legends despite playing little for the Mavs. He averaged 18.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.5 blocks while shooting 42.5 percent from outside the arc and 51.2 percent from the field overall.
Prosper took some time to speak with us during the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, expressing his excitement about getting knowledge from four-time NBA champion Thompson. “I believe (our summer pickups) are really beneficial to us. You really can’t leave Klay Thompson open anymore—he’s still one of the NBA’s finest shooters, Prosper said to DallasBasketball.com. “Although he is growing older, he still makes a fantastic complement. He’s the one who will extend the floor for us. He desires to be present. Dallas is where he wants to be. His goal is to take home the title.
Prosper will still study and learn from Thompson during practices even though he isn’t assured a role in head coach Jason Kidd’s rotation for the 2024–25 campaign. As seen by the video above, Prosper and Thompson are already beginning to develop a rapport. He’s another laser sniper, so I believe having him on the squad will be quite beneficial. He’s also won everything. Prosper told DallasBasketball.com, “He’s a vet.”
“(Klay has) experienced everything, including the grind. It is thus really exciting to have all of his expertise and what he can offer this club.” What a privilege it must be for a guy like Prosper, who turned 22 in July and still has his whole career ahead of him, to be able to absorb all of the wisdom that Kyrie Irving, Luka Doncic, and Thompson will bring.
