Panthers Sign Former Steelers Defensive End | Yardbarker

Chris Wormley, a former defensive lineman for the Pittsburgh Steelers, will be signed by the Carolina Panthers off their practice squad, the organization announced on Friday. He has made one tackle so far this season and will play in his fourth game. Wormley participated in the team’s rotation for the previous three games.

In addition to being an unrestricted free agent since his Pittsburgh contract expired in March, Wormley has been recuperating from the ACL surgery that prevented him from playing for the Steelers in 2022.

Earlier in the offseason, the dependable defensive lineman also went through tryouts with the New England Patriots and New York Giants, but he chose not to sign with either team.

Wormley hopes to make an impression with a weak Panthers club and is searching for another lifeline in the NFL. As a rotational player, he was effective for Pittsburgh; but, a serious injury kept him out of action and reduced his value as a free agent.

Wormley had a non-contact knee injury during the Steelers’ December home game against the Baltimore Ravens. Wormley lost much of the offseason due to the injury, which also ruined his season.

Wormley had a two-year contract with the Steelers, and as he was nearing the end of it, he was also eligible for free agency. As a rotational member along the Steelers’ defensive line, Chris Wormley recorded 29 tackles, a forced fumble, and 0.5 sacks prior to the injury.
